First you get ‘media literate.’ That is, you learn to question the established sources that you previously, unquestioningly assumed to be true- simply because they were the loudest, the most pervasive, or the most entrenched, accepted and commonplace. Unexamined certainties start to be examined. You learn to distrust media that is not trustworthy. You free yourself of compromised information- of information serving agendas that you previously knew nothing about. Those things that inform you wrongly. You begin to see the agendas behind the headlines- the way narratives are spun and used to manipulate the way we see the world- and thus our actions within it. But then there’s the next stage.
