“we know where you are” (because we love you!)

Location data during lockdown.

Google has released data from 131 countries. Where does this data come from? Your smartphone. But it’s not used to track you or anything. That will never happen. They probably just pluck these lovely graphs out of thin air. And the ‘randomised’ data could never be used to identify what individuals are doing, of course. Because that randomised data moving in and out your front door could be anyone.

Let’s have a look at ‘mobility changes’ in Brighton and Hove, from a report dated 29th March 2020 (you can find other cities, other countries, here):

This is why having a smartphone was always going to be a bad idea. Someone once said, years ago, “they are tracking devices which happen to make phone calls.” And this is just the beginning. Just look at this. Tracked by your phone to make sure you’re doing lockdown right.

And all this data is just casually out there as though you consented to it by having your location setting on. Oh wait, you did!

Nothing to worry about, I’m sure. Just doing their bit to keep you safe and secure!

Here’s a couple more graphs (not from Google, and not at all related):

So how long is it before it’s illegal not to carry a smart phone around with you at all times? Maybe it won’t ever need to be. We’re that well-trained.

Anyone fancy a GLOBAL DIGITAL ID?
